Nelson Tasman - Ready to respond
As we await the forecast rain, Nelson Tasman Emergency Management is being supported by Emergency Management Specialists from around New Zealand.
Support staff from around the motu have arrived in Nelson and are available to respond rapidly should there be a need. This includes Civil Defence Response Team members, specialist rescue personal (such as Fire and Emergency’s Swift Water rescue unit), and support staff from other Civil Defence groups.
The forecast was monitored overnight, and the Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) is fully staffed.
The heavier rainfall is expected to begin around 6 am and continue through until 6 pm. With high tide at 12 pm coinciding with the strongest winds, we are asking that people take care on all our roads (especially our coastal routes), and only travel if necessary.
The region has born the brunt of recent wild winter weather, and Nelson Tasman Civil Defence is ready to respond if there is a need.
